چکیده

Cell therapy has been shown to be useful in treating some patients with acute myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, and ischemic limbs.1–7 In harvesting, storing, or injecting the bone marrow–derived mononuclear cells (BMCs), an anticoagulant, such as heparin, is often added to prevent cell clumping. In this issue of Circulation Research, Drs Stephanie Dimmeler, Andreas Zeiher, and their colleagues (Seeger et al8) show in detailed studies that heparin may impair the functional capacities of BMCs. This discovery has significant implications for the processing of BMCs before administration of cell therapy and potentially in the treatment of patients with acute coronary syndromes, chronic ischemic and nonischemic cardiomyopathies, and peripheral vascular disease.

Smooth Muscle Progenitor Cells: Friend or Foe in Vascular Disease?

The origin of vascular smooth muscle cells that accumulate in the neointima in vascular diseases such as transplant arteriosclerosis, atherosclerosis and restenosis remains subject to much debate. Smooth muscle cells are a highly heterogeneous cell population with different characteristics and markers, and distinct phenotypes in physiological and pathological conditions. Several studies have re...

The Healing Effect of Bone Marrow-Derived Stem Cells in Knee Osteoarthritis: A Case Report

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent chronic disease impacting on quality of life and has societal and economical burden increasing with age. Yet, no confirmed pharmacological, biological or surgical therapy could prevent the progressive destruction of OA joint. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) with immunosuppressive activities emerged a potential therapy. We describe a magnetic resonance images (MR...

Background Chronic allograft nephropathy(CAN)  is one of the most common causes of chronic and end stage renal disease. It  is defined with Mainly tubular atrophy and  interstitial fibrosis and no evidence of any other etiology, or functional disorder that caused at least three months after transplantation . Control of risk factors (HTN,DM,HLP, …) and limiting  usage of calcineurin inhibitors...

Effect of Lithium Chloride on Proliferation and Bone Differentiation of Rat Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Culture

Objective(s) It is believed that the mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) differentiation and proliferation are the results of activation of wnt signaling pathway. On the other hand, lithium chloride is reported to be able to activate this pathway. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of lithium on in vitro proliferation and bone differentiation of marrow-derived MSC. Materials and ...
